Summer Reading 2015 Grade 10United States History II

All rising tenth graders are required to readOrphan Train, by Christina Baker Kline, published  by Harper Collins,  New York (2013) (ISBN 978-0-06-195072-8). Your reading will be evaluated as follows:

  1. All students will take a quiz on the book during the first week of classes in September.
  2. All students will be expected to participate in brief class discussion/ activities based on the book during the first week of classes in September.
  3. All students must submit a typed double-spacedone to two page essay responding to the prompt for listed below at the first class meeting in September.

The quiz and the essay will each count as a quiz grade on your first term United States History II grade.

Grade 10-United States History II

As you read the book, consider how events and conditions in history impact Niamh’s life. Identify and discuss at least three examples ofhow Niamh was affected by the historical period in which she lived. For each example, describe both the historical event/ conditions and how they affected Niamh.Use at least three specific examples from the book and include page numbers in MLA format for each example. You will be graded on the following:

Focus Correction Areas

Typed and printed narrative description of the three examples described above with specific details from the book.                                                                                                                        70%

Neat, professional appearance, regular letter-sized paper 81/2”, name and period on top front page of paper            Proper grammar, spelling, etc.                                                             15%

At least three MLA formatted citations
