Statement of Purpose to be accepted for grad school – trying to get into a social services masters program. This declaration is your opportunity to set yourself apart from other applicants, explain your motivation in seeking a Master of Social Work degree and demonstrate your writing skills. Keep in mind the quality of your submission often makes the difference in whether or not you are accepted into the program. While this can be a daunting task, these tips should make it easier: Limit your submission to five double-spaced pages, or 1,500 words. Anything more will not be accepted. Explain what social welfare areas interest you and why. Include information about significant relationships and life experiences you have had in giving or receiving help that motivated you to enter the social work field. The social work profession is based upon a set of core values. Think about how you have incorporated social work values into your human service experiences and interactions with others. The School of Social Work prepares students to prevent and mitigate severe social problems that challenge diverse populations. Discuss your experiences with and feelings about working with populations different from your own. Include information about your undergraduate/graduate academic experience, and describe your academic strengths and weaknesses. Please explain any grade deficiencies and what you have done to improve them.
