Evaluate Social Media for Education

Week 7 Assignment: Evaluate Social Media for Education Week 7 Assignment: Evaluate Social Media for Education Activity Description One aspect of communications that tends not to be addressed by pre-21st Century public relations assessment models, is that of using social networking sites as public relations tools. In Bagin, D., Gallagher, D.R., & Moore, E.H. (2012). School and Community Relations, the authors mention the importance of monitoring a “community pulse on key issues” as a key component to be assessed in a comprehensive school public relations audit. The use of social media websites, such as Facebook, is becoming increasingly popular as a means of communicating with community members on schools-related topics. In this week, you will evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of using public media websites as part of an educational system’s public relations system. The National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) maintains a blog in which members can discuss hot topics in public relations. The blog is open to the public. Please log onto the blog and do the following: 1.Read blog conversations regarding the use of social media sites as a public relations tool. 2.Be sure to view related conversations from the current month and the past four months by clicking on the Archives months/years on the right side of the blog page. 3.Based on what you read on the NSPRA blog, what you have read in Bagin, D., Gallagher, D.R., & Moore, E.H. (2012). School and Community Relations, and any of your own professional experiences with social networking/media sites, prepare an APA-format table with two columns. •In the first column present at least five potential advantages of a school, school district, or district-sponsored program (athletics, arts, etc.) using social media sites as a public relations vehicle. Include at least one item pertaining to crisis management. •In the second column, list any corresponding cautions about doing so. For example, if the first column cites “easy access by the public” as an advantage of social media sites, the second column might counter this with a caution that “anyone who has internet and social media website access can post almost anything they choose.” 4.Conclude with a reflective paragraph in which you provide your personal experiences and thoughts regarding the role of social media sites in school-related public relations. Length: A two-column APA-format table with a concluding reflective paragraph, no longer than two pages total. References: minimum of 3 scholarly resources. Your analysis should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.
