Application: Ecological Social Work Theory Research Summary and Timeline
Imagine you are working on a case revolving around a teenage client with a substance abuse problem. He lives with his parents, who also have a history of substance abuse. He attends an inner-city high school in a high-crime community with rampant drug use. In this example, the microsystem is the teenager, the mesosystem is his family, and the macrosystem is his school. Using these three perspectives, a social worker can assess the client’s needs and offer appropriate services and interventions to address all three systems.
