Here is a list of things you should consider when writing your term paper:

Dos:

  • Use size 12 font and Times New Roman.
  • Use MLA or APA formatting if you use any citations or quotes in your paper and don’t forget to make a reference page if you do use citations.
  • Proofread before submitting to catch spelling and grammatical errors since they will cause point deductions.
  • Write your paper in the third person, not the first person
  • Be sure to answer all of the questions in a well written essay format with an intro, body, and conclusion.
  • Please make sure to back up your statements in your essay by giving examples you have seen acted out in the film. Don’t just tell me… show me!

Don’ts:

  • Don’t take numerous quotes or ideas and copy them into your paper. Take pieces of quotes or ideas and rewrite them in your own words. A few quotes or ideas is fine, but don’t overdo it.
  • Don’t write “in conclusion” as part of your conclusion.
  • Don’t write in slang terms (i.e. gonna) or overuse phrases (i.e. “like” “however”)
  • Don’t give a review of the movie.
  • Don’t write in the first person unless you are asked to (for example, the portion of the paper that asks for your opinion can be in first person)
  • Don’t write in response to the question as a numerical response
    • example: 1) Asians and African Americans are portrayed…
    • example: 2) The white female discriminates….
