A fictionalized narrative of the historical life of the American South written from the account of a family member

Margaret Walker’s Jubilee not only tells a captivating story about its protagonist, but it also presents the historical life of the American South in a compelling narrative. She diligently researched the period and effectively incorporated the information into her literary saga. The assignment is to follow a similar literary and scholarly path. First, discover a family story that is worth telling and that can be chronicled in a fictionalized narrative. The story should in some way be a product of its time and/or location. Next, research the time and/or location of the story, not limiting yourself to the people of the story, but also including the customs and ideologies of that specific time. Finally, incorporate the research into a well-crafted narrative of 10 pages. Also, in one full page, aside from the narrative, discuss and explain your experience with the assignment, particularly your process of research and what you discovered. The narrative and bibliography should be in MLA format. Above are the exact directions from the professor, but the narrative does not have to exactly be told through the actual events from a family member. You can research the period of the American South (particularly the 1900s) and come up with a fictional narrative. No in-text citations, just incorporate the research into the narrative and cite the source in the bibliography.
