Original Title
You will demonstrate your understanding of literary terms and devices studied over the course of the semester by using them in the writing your own short story.
You must choose and explore one of the course’s main themes in your story: gender, family, or class.
Literary Devices
In order to be successful, your short story will need to incorporate all of the following literary devices to convey the action or what happens in the story.
· Characters
· Plot
· Setting
· Climax
· Resolution
· Dialogue
Literary Terms
Your story will also need to incorporate at least 2 (or more) of the following literary terms in order to convey a larger meaning.
· Simile
· Metaphor
· Motif
· Analogy
· Theme
Things to keep in mind:
1. Which of the stories (or versions of the stories) we have read is the inspiration for your tale? Please provide the title of the story and author’s name. (The Grimm’s Brothers fairytales: Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the beast and Hansel and Gretel.
2. What elements from the original story are you going to use, invert, or reverse in your story?
3. Who are the main characters of your story?
4. What is the major conflict of your story?
5. How will this conflict be resolved?
6. What is the ‘moral’ of your story?
NOTE: We have to reverse the roles in a fairytale in some way. It has to be an inspiration from either beauty and the beast, sleeping beauty or Hansel and Gretel.
