Admission Essay

My most preferred word is “abandon”, which has diverse meanings. I have had occurrences that made me realize the applicability of the first meaning of this word. This meaning suggests that to abandon is to give up on something. The most significant experience that I had on the applicability of this word was 12 years ago.

This was during an entrance examination that I had to take in my middle school. I also learnt the significance of appropriate timing. It reduces instances in which one makes regrettable compromises. It was mandatory for students to answer all the examination questions. I was uncertain about the last question of the paper. My uncertainty made me leave the question unanswered, which was risky. I abandoned the question but did not regret this decision.

I did not fail this test because I got a successful enrolment to continue with my education. Abandoning that last question had a significant contribution to this enrolment. This made the word abandon to be my favorite because of the power it had in my education. Now I realize that it is never wrong to give up on something. Abandoning that question in the entrance exam was an insightful experience. The entire experience enabled me to learn how to abandon everything in my life that I cannot control.

I gave up on the question and registered a symbolic acknowledgment of any fate that would befall me. It appears as though the timing of the entrance examination was appropriate. I acknowledged that I could not handle the question. Later, in my education I still appreciate the word abandon because of the evidence I have of its significance.
