An interview with three American physicians
I conducted an interview with three physicians concerning their job experiences. These professionals maintain, promote and restore the heath of humans by treating and diagnosing of injuries or diseases. These professionals concentrate on some categories of diseases, treatment methods or patients. Physicians have profound knowledge in medicine and are compassionate for patients (Zuckerman, 2005).
The physicians that I interviewed were Americans. These professionals also posses degrees in Doctor of Medicine, and they adopt the initials M.D. The Doctor of Osteopathic medicine adopts the initials D.O. Once the M.D and the D.O complete their degree programs, they can get a license to have the same rights to practice medicine specialty. In the United States, the schools of Osteopathic medicine have a curriculum that is almost the same as that of the Medicine schools (Zuckerman, 2005). These schools teach the muscular-skeletal system. These American graduates are quite different from the Commonwealth countries and Europe. The graduates in commonwealth countries are Osteopaths and they are not physicians. The Osteopaths have a similar training like the physicians, but they do not have the license to perform surgeries or to prescribe medicine.
In the Western custom, these professionals have a high social status, and they have high and stable incomes and securities. They work in inflexible and long hours and have shifts on times that they may not socialize with other people. They have a high status partly because they get a lot of training and because their profession requires legal and ethical tasks. Initially the physicians used to describe those who needed their assistance as patients. A patient was an ancient symbol of a duty in medics since its original meaning was the person who suffers (Zuckerman, 2005).
In the developed countries, the physician students pass through tertiary level programs in medical schools. The undergraduate course lasts for a period of 6 years. After the achievement of the degree program, they pass through training under strict supervision. This training or internship usually takes a period of two years. The medical practitioners have a license from the college or university that they practiced (Zuckerman, 2005). This degree program offers the graduates a license to practice the profession by law in the country of residence and sometimes they may practice it in other countries worldwide.
Before the interview, I prepared a list of questions that I would ask the physicians and selected a famous hospital in New York to perform the interviews. I looked for a number of medical assistants to interview. The physicians were quite busy, but I managed to interview three of them. I also questioned them concerning their profession. I asked them questions about their life and how they chose their careers, why they chose the medical school and why the selected New York for their profession. Additionally, I asked them questions regarding their strengths and weaknesses in their profession (Zuckerman, 2005). I questioned them about their methods of handling their patients and their personal attributes. The response was quite satisfactory and convincing. Although one of the interviewees seemed to be reluctant to answer the questions, the two of them were quite comfortable and gave me convincing responses.
