Analysis of Michael Jackson’s personality
I choose Michael Jackson because he was a popular figure and was a highly talented man. Michael Jackson, as a public figure possessed a number of complex personalities. Michael was one of the best singers ever to live and, at the same time, he as a child molester and later changed his appearance. Michael’s personality is also evident in his music videos. All these are highly complex personalities that ought to be analyzed.
Freudian concept 1
Freudian concept of the past experience influencing the future of an individual is quite evident in Michaels’s personality. Michael’s father had abused him both physically and emotionally. His father used to tell him how ugly he was. This made Michael to change his appearance in future.
Freudian concept 2
Another concept of Freudian is self consciousness of an individual. Michael had a condition called vitiligo that altered his skin tone, and this made him do cosmetic surgeries because he was self-conscious.
Freudian concept 3
Another concept of Freudian is how conflicts can be resolved can impact how an individual adapts in future. Since Michael’s father abused him physically, Michael turned this abuse to children. Michael molested children because that is how his father brought him up. The physical abuse that he experienced as a child made Michael believe that it was the best way to treat children.
Freudian concept 4
Freudian’s concepts of aggressive and sexual wishes also explain the fact that Michael would mistreat children. Michael was also anxious to be with children because, throughout his life, he had never gotten the chance to mingle with children. Michael only started getting publicity at an older age when he started singing. He wanted to treat children the way he wished to be treated as a child.
Freudian concept 5
This concept states that a person who is emotionally healthy will always strive to be successful in life. Michael was a hardworking person and it clearly indicates why he became highly successful in the music industry.
Second personality concept 1
One concept of second personality theorist is ethnocentrism, which states that every person would tend to adapt to the environment that he grew up in and would ensure that it manifests in his or her future life. Michael never had a decent childhood; in fact, he never had any child hood at all. This is quite evident in his “Thriller” music video when he tries to satisfy his childhood desires of transforming from a young man to a ghoul. In “Billie Jean” he changes to a black cat and in “Black and white” he changes to lout who breaks windows. All these examples emphasize his childhood fantasies.
Second personality concept 2
Egocentrism is another concept of personality theorist that is evident in every human being. Just like any other person, Michael was egocentric in his portrayal of the music videos. He wanted the directors to cast the videos in the manner that pleased him and not any other person. He was being egocentric in his actions.
Second personality concept 3
Michael was also being dogmatic because he did not want anyone to advise him on what he had to do. This is why he would do anything that he wanted to do to himself, including changing his appearance. It is a fact that no one, including his family liked his idea of changing his appearance; nonetheless, he did it.
Second personality concept 4
Uniqueness is a concept of personality that was common with Michael. He had a unique style of dancing; his fast jumps, pelvic thrust and being flexible in his dance moves. His popularity in the dance moves made him quite influential because he invented the “break dance” that everyone would try to imitate.
Second personality concept 5
Michael was a legend and this personality made him likable with a number of people.
Second personality concept 6
Social interest is indicated by how an individual is related with humanity and how he co-operates with other people to achieve social advancement and success, in future. Michael co-operated well with his producers and directors to produce the best music of all time.
Summary
The two Freudian concepts that relate to my personality are self-consciousness and past experience influencing my current life. I am always self-conscious of how I dress, people I relate to and my environment. My parents have always treated me well, and this has influenced me because I also treat people with a lot of respect. I am an ethnocentric person because I always stick to my culture. I am egocentric because I am proud of myself.
