Appearance is the outward look of a person. The infinite variation of a human phenotype varies although the society helps in reducing the variability into distinct categories. The physical appearance of a human being especially those that are attributed are usually important for attractiveness physically. In modern society, more people value their appearances in that, the way a person appears tends to both many them. Human beings are acutely sensitive about their physical appearance, with some of the people theorizing the reasons for evolution. Some of the differences in the appearance of human beings is because of their genes. In addition to that, other reason as to why appearances differ is because of; the person’s age, diseases and lifestyle and most of the results is due to personal adornment. Traditionally, some people have been linked with various differences in people’s appearances for instance the skeleton shape through ethnicity such as elongated stride. Different cultures have different degrees of importance and its emphasis on the social status.
In the United States of America, student’s appearance has taken a different direction in that; most of the colleges and universities do not require their students to wear uniforms. This directive enables students to wear anything they feel like in school. Many students will spend a lot of time on deciding what to wear to school in an attempt to draw attention from other students. With this type of trends, the students will soon forget the meaning of school and their academic performances and focus more on their appearance. Generally, without uniforms restrictions in the United States universities, has led to extreme competition between the students. Academic achievements are no longer the key issue among students, but rather, how they dress and who wears the most expensive dresses is the main thing here. This scenario is mostly observed among college and campus students. Currently, many students measure their parental love by how much they spend on them and how good they pamper them with goodies such as money and relevant stuff. The unlucky parents with no money to spend on such meretricious extravagances are seen as cruel and uncaring. In most cases, their children engage in gangs, which peddle drugs in order to raise cash for their extravagant spending. In most cases, the students are usually asked the reasons behind their extreme attachment to clothing but instead they say it is a cool thing to dress well.
Generally, girls think clothing send sexual messages to the boys in that, by wearing skimpy dresses, it will make them more attractive. Civil libertarians argue that dress codes contravene freedom of expression in that it is misleading. They further claim that people observe dress codes without diminutions in their freedoms. In countries whereby the students perform better, academically than their American counterparts, school dress codes and uniforms are observed as the main issues, which might create poor learning environment. The American students tend to be more disciplined, less disruptive and neater. With this, it is the right moment for the American people to realize the benefits of safe schools, which will outweigh there perceived curtailment of expression freedom, which is being brought out by the dress codes. The scenario is completely different with high school students whereby, most of them will not have real problems with their appearances. Most high schools in the United States are required to wear school uniforms. School dress code can provide a better learning environment for students. In most cases, the students will not have to worry too much about their appearances since all the students will be wearing the same school uniforms. In this case, the students will find more time to focus on their education. Moreover, the same dress codes will promote order among the students hence most students will behave in a proper manner. Strategies to control school violence is still a debatable topic especially with the re opening of the public schools.
In our current societies, appearance is an important aspect to every society member. A good example is how beauty is defined. Beauty is how skinny a woman can get hence, many women want to be skinny. In most cases, they try various means such as losing weight to become skinny for the sake of their appearance. The diet foods heavily affect their normal bodily functions and lead them to anorexia nervosa. Alternatively, many people in the society waste time and spend a lot of money to create a better appearance of their bodies. With the emergence of new technologies and the various medical methods globally, many people are doing plastic surgeries on their bodies to improve their appearances. Recent reports and statistics researches reveal that Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the cosmetic surgery procedures demands have steadily increased globally by 5% since the previous years. Currently, over 13.8 million people have performed the activity.
The growing numbers of cosmetic surgeries shows how human beings are obsessed about their appearances. Many people prefer losing a lot of money but not being told on how bad they look. Although the cosmetic surgeries create good appearance to the human beings, many people forget about the side effects of such procedures. The side effects of such procedures are strong and can heavily affect a person. Recent reports claim that a person who wishes to perform plastic surgery, will not be guaranteed 100% success. In the course of the procedure, accidents are bound to happen and one can end up with permanent scars. Retorted face cases are also common after the procedure especially when the surgeon is poor or any wrongdoing during the procedure. With this, it is not always good to take risks especially something, which one can easily avoid. Other situations where appearance comes first is the business situations whereby, many people get nervous about their appearance more than on how they perform.
In business, performance comes first, then appearance follows suit. Good appearance in business does not bring good performance. In business, the business owner would never judge his employee by their external appearances. The boss focus would only be how the business performs. A worker who performs his duties well at the workstation is highly ranked despite the bad appearances he might be possessing. The most important thing is that external appearances are inborn and cannot be change. In this case, it is not right to judge a person by his appearances because he might have more to offer. Although appearances are inborn, a person can change or improve his inner quality through his efforts. Improvement of inner quality can make someone improve his results drastically. In this case, excessive care on someone’s appearance may end up as a waste of time and energy.
