Audience Analysis
In accordance to the first magazine, it addresses the impact that the advertising and promotion of tobacco plays a major role to the increasing rates of smokers. Since most of the magazines are used in the advertising of tobacco, most of the youths have fallen victims of cigarette smoking. In reading, the magazine, the authors, Lovato, Watts and Stead discusses that most of the youths have a tendency of reading magazines associated with drugs (Lovato, Watts and Stead 45). In reading the magazines, most youths get motivated into abusing drugs because of the revelations and impacts of drugs discussed. Most of the magazines written concerning impact of tobacco in most cases will involve of the old smokers that confess using the drugs. However, the manner in which the confession is written tends to appeal the young members of the society into smoking tobacco. Lovato argues that revealing to advantages and disadvantages of the tobacco is the chief reason that motivates the young into drug abuse. In reading the magazines related with drug abuse, it is evident that most of the advantages enlisted concerning tobacco smoking are vast than the disadvantages (Lovato, Watts and Stead 71).
The target audience in this magazine is both the parents and the teenagers still undergoing the adolescent stage. The magazine tries to discourage the parents on purchasing magazines related concerning not only tobacco but also any drugs. The author also tries to encourage the parents concerning being watchful towards the adolescent teenagers just to ensure that they are not participating in drug abuse.
In the second magazine, “Taking charge of your health: discourses of responsibility in English-Canadian women’s magazines” the author Roy tries to encourage the women in Canada to be watchful of their health (Roy 16). The entire magazine tries to discuss the essence of the healthy living and the way women can keep fit hence staying healthy. In the first pages of the article, Roy identifies that the most vital aspect of the woman body is being capable of maintaining the body shape. Lacking the proper health and instruction towards a healthy living in most of the women generally contributes to the poor body structure. In this case, Roy suggests that women in Canada have failed to maintain the appropriate health conditions because of lacking a proper diet. The women in Canada always consume foods regardless of the excessive calories and fats available in the foods. The magazine also discusses the various ways in which the women who have increased in weights can reduce the high levels of fats in the body. Roy also reveals the appropriate measures that the Canadian women can undertake to ensure that the health is first-class enough (Roy 25).
In reading the article, it is evident that the target audience is the women especially in Canada because of the way Roy identifies the problems facing the women in Canada especially health wise. The article also identifies most of the foods women intake and exercise measures to curb the increasing cases of obesity in women. In reading both the articles, it is evident that both the authors have clearly discussed the issues affecting the target audience. Understanding the audience is vital in magazine publications and public speaking since it assists in conveying the needed information.
