This map indicates service roads located in the area of the Prescott National Forest ranging from Thumb Butte south to Copper Basin. Many of these roads are open to hikers and mountain bikers; a few are open for horse riding. This map might be useful in a recreational brochure to show the large number of trails that wind through the pine forests to the southwest of downtown Prescott.
Gibbs, B., White, G., and Febulon, S. (2015, March). Impact of Extracurricular Activities on College Retention at Four-Year Universities. Social Science Research, 50, 214 – 227.
This scholarly article reports the results of a study of 80 four-year universities in the United States; this study examined the link between student participation in extracurricular activities and student retention. This study finds that students who participated in at least 4 hours of extracurricular activity per week were 82% more likely to remain in school during their freshman year. Benefits for sophomores, juniors, and seniors were similar. The authors argue that students should be actively encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities, and freshmen in particular should be exposed to a variety of activities through activity fairs and similar structured events sponsored by their universities.
