1. Is your workplace diverse in nature? Discuss benefits of working in a diverse organization.
The place I work is diverse in nature since it constitutes of varied people having diverse characteristics, gifts plus talents. The organization upholds and recognizes the diversity of each employee and insists on developing each employee so as to increase one’s productivity. The workplace recognizes, appreciates, values and celebrates the diversities among its employees with regards to age, class, race, belief plus sexual perception (David, 2008). In addition, organization is much concerned with the productivity of each individual and one’s welfare. The diversity is not limited to employees only but too to the clients.
Working in a diverse organization helps one discover what he/she can do superiorly and benefit the organization. Since there is free environment and time for one to exercise diverse talents with the assistance from fellow workmates as well as from the management (David, 2008). In addition, one’s potentiality is recognized, thus one’s skills are utilized fully for the good of the organization, thus making it successful. This motivates the employees to work harder and encourages team spirit among them where despite the organization having different people, there is feeling of belonging.
A diverse organization creates a comfortable and effective environment for its employees. Since they are free to discuss their differences and similarities, which after understanding each they incorporate them and work effectively (David, 2008). It is also beneficial in working in a diverse organization since people of different ethnicities and races feel their contributions as employees are incorporated in the firm’s mission. This encourages innovation on the part of employees and widens them professionally. Additionally, each individual is viewed as organization’s diversity where the organization’s main goal is to make each person’s requirement as part of mainstream. In case of any loss incurred be it health or property of an employee, the organization upholds compensation basing on diversity efforts (David, 2008).
2. What makes change so difficult for most individuals, and how can this process be improved to lessen the threat?
Majority of people are defiant of any change since it threatens their security coupled with fear of what it will result to when it is implemented. For instance organization’s employee reshuffling from one department level to another with assigning of new responsibilities. This makes some think they will loose their capacity when transferred to other areas where they will find competent workers than them. Also, some lack confidence and feeling of inadequate in tackling the new responsibilities, which comes with change. Since they do not want to be deemed that they are incompetent in the newly assigned area or responsibility.
The fear of the unknown prompts some people to resist change since they see the present situation with given circumstances is better that the coming future. They fail to understand each step concerning change presents a chance to new opportunities and not the negative side which change has always being reputed with by those who are afraid of change (David, 2008).
To instigate change among people or any organization, the inducer of change should expound clearly about the change prior being implemented. This entails explaining vividly what the change is all about and objectives which need to be attained once it is implemented (David, 2008). This includes expounding on the areas which will be affected and how to make the concerned parties aware. In addition, for the change to be successful and minimize chances of rejections from the concerned individuals; it is essential for the concerned person or management to make intensive consultations. This ensures that necessary ideas concerning change which the inducer might not have seen have been catered during implementation process (David, 2008).
