Compare and Contrast the following paintings, using as best you can the critical thinking methods modeled and explained in class and in your textbook. Pablo Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon (1907) Vs. Robert Colescott’s Les Demoiselles d’Alabama: Vestidas (1985)

The two pictures focus in displaying relevant similarities and differences in relation to the art concepts integrated in the generation of the prospects. In analysis of the differences and similarities of the two pictures, it is essential to understand the components and descriptions of each picture thus an opportunity to understand the art behind the development of the pictures.

Pablo Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon (1907)

This picture illustrates components of reductionism and contortion in relation to the space. The artist focused on the maximization of these components of space thus incredible reductionism. Dislocation of faces is also explosive in this picture thus the ability to express the message to the audience on the objectives of its generation. This picture also reflects realization of freedom of expression with reference to mode4nr and classical French influences thus enabling the artist to carve his own path. The picture also portrays implementation of geometrical shapes through the woman pulling the curtain at the far right. The woman also has aspects of heavy paint application. The women in the picture seem cold and geometrical thus reflection of lifelessness. This indicates that the presentation is more of a specimen rather than real women.

Robert Colescott’s Les Demoiselles d’Alabama: Vestidas (1985)

Like in the above case, the picture focuses on the presentation of the women within the society. The picture implements bright colors and relevant patterns with the aim of setting the tone for the understanding of the piece of art. The shape of the women illustrates confidence and aspect of voluptuousness. The lines of the picture are fluid and continuous unlike in the previous picture. Application of the moving dots and colors focus on the separation of one woman from the next thus creating essence of individualism and group-like friends’ scenario. Unlike women in the previous picture, the women in this picture come to life through application of color and depth perceptions. The women appear to be three-dimensional thus a reflection of mass of the picture. There is also implementation of the concepts of foreground and background thus making the women the focal point. The expression of their faces is essential in the determination of personality.

Find an artist that is in our book and (#1) research a bit more background about that artist. (#2), describe the process of art the artist uses to create his/her work and (3) describe the style of work that they create including the time period they are part of.

Banksy is one of the modern artists focusing on enhancing the understanding of art through pieces of paintings and decorations. Banksy is based in England emphasizing on the realization of goals and objectives on different fields. He integrates activism, painting, film direction, and graffiti to demonstrate the concept of the modern art. He was born in 1974 in Bristol, England. In the early stages of his development, he was never involved in artistic components or works, but trained as a butcher. In the late 1980s, he focused on working on the modern pieces of art through Graffiti.

In the production of his pieces of art, he integrates concepts of art and music thus enhancing his ability to interact with his audiences effectively and efficiently. He also incorporates satire and dark humor in the generation of the art business thus addressing the political and social situations in the context of relevant cities across the globe. Banksy is a modern artist known for his pieces of art from 1990 to present. Some of his pieces of works include paintings at the London zoo and Bristol zoo in England. He is more of a street artist because most of his works are displayed across major cities across the globe.

Looking back at some of the modern artists we have learned about in our videos, what are some of the characteristics that you like and what are some of the things that you are less comfortable with? If you were a modern artist today, what are some of the subjects you might use to create your art and why?

In relation to the modern artists, I would associate with several attributes focusing on their contributions to the understanding of the art in the modern society. This is through critical analysis of the works of Keith Haring, Banksy, and Shepard Fairey. The most appealing concept or characteristic of these artists is the ability and capacity to integrate and incorporate the aspects of self-awareness in relation to understanding of the art. This makes it vital for the development of the aspect of ambiguity in the presentation of the work to the relevant audiences. The audience also benefit from this concept of self-awareness through modification of their perceptions regarding the piece of art. This makes it essential for the audiences to understand the implication of the art from various perspectives. The viewers of the piece of art do not view its subject matter in the form of a person or a place but a painting or sculpture in its own interpretation. The ability to incorporate numerous subjects in the understanding of art is also an essential attribute concerning the modern artists.

As a modern artist, I would implement and integrate various subjects with the aim of passing vital information or message to the audiences across the globe. I would focus on subjects such as politics, culture, society, and economic issues with the aim of addressing common notions in the modern society. This will enhance relevancy to the events and activities within the modern society thus integration of the concept of self-awareness in interacting with the audiences. This will also facilitate the process of understanding art and its components in the modern society.

Using any of the quotes in italicizes from chapters 1-7 write a statement for or against the quote. Write out quote. Why did you choose this quote? State your case.

“Everyone wants to understand art. Why not try to understand the song of a bird! Why does one love the night, flowers, everything around one without trying to understand them? But in the case of painting, people have to understand”. –Pablo Picasso

I chose the above quote because of its intriguing nature in understanding art and its components. The quote enhances the understanding of the art in relation to the works and events of the modern and traditional or classical artists. The quote also raises curiosity on understanding art and its relevant principles thus essential for the individuals with the thirst and hunger for the study of art. I also chose the quote because of the impressive questions towards the concept of art and painting. This is because of the relationship between art and the natural settings or relevant events with reference to the environment.

The quote seems to determine the reason why individuals do not fall in love with art without understanding its components or implications. This is through illustration or comparison with aspects such as flowers, night, and any other activity or thing surrounding individuals. Individuals love events or activities in relation to their surrounding without effective or efficient understanding of the events or features. In the context of art or painting, the scenario changes as individuals must integrate understanding of the art and its components. This raises questions thus the motive behind the generation of the quote. I think it is essential to understand art with the aim of unveiling hidden meaning and implications thus relating to the developments within the society.
