Compare Forum of Augustus and Persepolis, Apadana

It is a Comparison essay that the writer should compare Forum of Augustus and the Apadana of Persepolis. You need to situate them within an historical context.

Think broadly. Although the essays may appear to focus narrowly on one or two monuments selected at random from among the many that might have been chosen, the point is for you to discuss them within the broad historical context (chronological or thematic) that is defined by the choice of comparison.

Focus on making the essay analytical rather than descriptive. Analysis requires the pointing out of specific physical features to illustrate a point; description is random– simply writing down what you see without any particular goal in mind.

Does the essay have a thesis– i.e. does it try to make a point? The statement, “In this essay I will compare and contrast x and y.” is not a thesis sentence. A thesis sentence should say at the outset what broader observation/conclusion the comparison/contrast will yield, for example: “X and Y illustrate differences in the way that elites expressed their status in the late Regal period and in the middle years of the Republic. …” This thesis sentence sets up the general terms of the essay precisely. Then you need to think about what you have to explain to the reader so that they will understand what the sentence/thesis means. The thesis should be followed by an explanation or assessment of the differences in the historical/cultural/political settings, the architectural forms/materials/et al. available at each time, etc. This explanation/assessment should be illustrated by references to the monuments on the screen or other monuments you have seen in class or in your book. This long explanatory section is your argument, which will be followed by the conclusion. Your conclusion will restate the thesis or, even better, build upon it to state the essential difference implied by the comparison.

This essay can compares the difference of Forum of Augustus and Persepolis Apadana. Even though both of them are symbols of emperors, they have different political meaning for each empire. Forum of Augustus is the symbol of Augustus to against Julius. It might shows that Augustus is the successor of Caesar because it was initiated by Caesar. But Apadana does not have this meaning. Also compare their functions, like Forum can be law court and etc while Apadana is for celebration mostly.
