You will select a social problem that you have learned about and examine how it has changed from an earlier historical time. You will write about it in a historical analysis paper. After you have selected a social problem to study, you will browse or search through a sociology journal called Social Problems to find a sociological research article about the same social problem. You will use only the articles published between 1960 and 1989 to compare and contrast the historical and contemporary social problem.
The social problem that you select should be clearly related to the module topic. Use the Social Problems article as your only source for the historical perspective and use the required e-textbook and e-reader as the only sources for the contemporary perspectives. Provide a brief summary, one to two paragraphs, of the historical article. What was the research question? What data and research activities provided the evidence? What were the conclusions about the social problem or policies?
Prepare a comparison of the social problem for each of the two time periods. What is common to both time points? What is different between the time points? Be sure to explain your answer. Declare whether society has make progress in solving the social problem and back up your claim using the article, e-textbook and e-reader.
Describe your personal experience with the social problem. Personal experience is broadly defined as experiences that occurred to you, a fried or close family member. Personal experiences may include emotional or intellectual engagements through music, fiction, films, documentaries, etc.
Produce a document that is college-level quality. The first information should be your name and the title of your paper. The text must be well-organized, free of grammatical errors and misspellings, and engage the reader with its language. All citations must be correct and complete. The document must be paginated.
