Q1. Discuss the implications of hiring contingent workers from both the organizational and contingent worker perspective
Contingent workers have an essential role to play in the organization. Organizational goals turn out after hiring contingent workers from time to time. The effect of appointing contingent workers to the organization is the increased cost of payment. The laborers are casual and needs payment, either on daily bases or on a weekly basis. Contingent workers acquire job opportunities; hence, the rate of poverty decreases for the period they are working. This is a negative implication, though it contradicts the benefit of profitable gains in the organization.
When more work forces rise, the number of products in the manufacture process increases. This ensures the organization’s markets shift to larger margins in the stock markets. I work as a contingent worker in a communications company. The corporation hires impermanent workers often. The workload increases and, must end with immediate effect. Permanent workers lack respect for contingent workers due the preconceived notion about their desperate situation. However, worker’s consideration matters to the management and it gives them fair treats. The organization considers the hardworking laborers and employs them permanently.
The most specific way to include contingent workers is to offer training to teach them on their new roles. Some systems like rewarding performance standards and helping them deal with emotional aspects of conflict and change make them feel included. This increases their devotion and dedication to their job. The HRM should also encourage multicultural group work and universal communication channels, in favor of all workers.
Q2. How is technology affecting HRM? Identify how it has changed in the last 20 years and the impacts it has made in the workplace.
Technology affects the HRM in many optimistic and pessimistic ways. The previous two decades have made a diverse change in technological issues. The HRM faces challenges whilst recruiting fresh staff in the organization. The main one is selecting the best out of many best persons. This is because expertise has seen everybody in the contemporary world educated to higher intellectual levels. The production level in organizations rises due to technology, hence increased income. On the negative side, technology leads to workers lay off, because new machinery and computers does the work.
The HRM copes with issues like, alteration in work situations. Modernity presents decentralized workplaces. Therefore, HRM ensures it reflects in the organization. New working strategies bloom every day and workers must receive the awareness training to keep them at par and updated. This posse a challenge to the HRM because he/she has to plan for it: especially, in large organizations. Some recruits break policies and conventions expected in the organization. The HRM should make a decision of their destiny, which is at times challenging.
People must pay attention to work and personal life in the modern business world. This is due to the economic depression affecting the world. Families need two breadwinners to cater for the many needs of life. People work at home due to improved technology nowadays. Organizations insist that people work for longer hours to increase the level of income. This has made the world a global village, with organizations expecting continuous operations, that is the world never sleeps but run throughout the year. With the world presenting all these conditions, everyone struggles to earn some income, hence the world of business looms.
