In designing a poster in Japan that can help promote exportation of rice from Australia to Japan, it would be imperative to focus on a number of issues that appeal to the Japanese culture. This starts with understanding semiotics in the language that can help avoid misinterpretation of my poster. I would avoid many formalities of politeness in the language used. It is evident that there is a difference between Japan and Australia when it comes to being polite. However, the most decisive move would be to be thorough in the poster. In being thorough, the first thing I would consider in my poster is to apply the inductive order of argument. This is significant in giving the relevance of Australian wheat for consumption in Japan. As a result, I would acknowledge the fact that Japan produces wheat among the stable foods, and may have enough wheat at their disposal. However, I would indicate the nutritional value of the Australian wheat as being higher than that of Japan. This will attract interest from the consumers of Japan to buy Australian wheat.
In as much as I will be thorough in making Australian wheat relevant, it is crucial to avoid conflict with the host country. This implies that I would consider harmony as key to my poster and draw the attention of most consumers in Japan based on linguistic relativity. For instance, I would include statements like “we should work closely as countries and communities from the pacific. In case Japan would like to promote such products that are manufactured like automobiles and other electronics, it is imperative that the market remains open to the Australian products”. I would then present a picture of wheat from Australia as an example of products to give value in the Japanese market.
On the other hand, my poster will be efficient if I incorporated referential language. According to the Japanese, it loses meaning to be so succinct and straightforward. Offer a statement that will trigger the audience in Japan to infer and understand the connotative meaning. For instance, I would express the desire to protect both Australian and Japanese product in the market. Similarly, I would embrace the Japanese culture when it comes to cuisines. The manner in which they cook their meals and eat is imperative in the poster. This proves effective in promoting the Australian wheat especially when they notice that I understand their culture and therefore, value it.
Another paramount point to focus on when making the poster is to concentrate on the product and give a breakdown of the ingredients within the package. This accompanies the country of origin, which in this case is Australia. To some level, drawing a Japanese person with the two sticks for picking food from a bowl while looking happy and healthy would add value to the poster in the promotion of the Australian wheat. The last thing would be to ensure accomplishment of the perlocutionary act. This would focus on bringing out the associative impact on the viewer of the poster. Let the Japanese understand in their terms what I would be advertising in the poster. I believe with the above moves and suggestions in the poster would be effective in promoting the Australian wheat in Japan. The poster considers thoroughness, harmony and referential language through inductive reasoning or order.
