YOU MUST ANALYZE THE ATTACHED ARTICLE FOLLOWING THESE RULES.
It should be noted that this exercise should not be treated as a simple summary of the article. Be sure to discuss both the substantive and methodological aspects of the paper.
Beware, you should not answer the following questions verbatim. The goal here is to give a critical analysis, use the following question as a guideline of sorts:
Substantive:
What question motivates the research? Is it clearly expressed? Why is it important?
What is the goal of the researcher? Description, explanation, prediction?
What is the theory? Is it clear?
Are the concepts in the theory clearly defined?
Are the assumptions of the theory and the causal links underlying it clearly articulated?
What is the unit of analysis?
Are the key actors in the theory individuals, groups, states, or organizations? Neither?
What are the implications of the theory?
Methodological:
How are the cases selected?
Which implications does the researcher test?
What is the central empirical strategy?
Is it a qualitative or quantitative design?
Does this strategy adequately test the theory?
Essays should be typed, 2-3 pages in length, double-spaced with 12 point font and 1-inch margins. Please use APSA citation style. The paper should clearly and concisely communicate your ideas in an organized manner.
If you have to cite, please cite only small sentences only from the article that you have to analyze. Since this is a very short essay I want you to write everything in your own words.
