Select a specific ethnic, racial, disabled, or religious client system (except gender & sexual orientation) within an environment and context of Fayetteville, Fort Bragg or FSU. The group must be one you do not know or “understand” and feel the least prepared to work with or the least equipped to advocate for in any given situation as a culturally aware MSW social worker. Be specific about the client group (i.e. Jamaicans instead of people of African descent). Complete a literature review of the client system/group to analyze and critique the information for your interactive project and subsequent paper. Appropriate this assignment as a social worker. Describe in detail your group sociopolitical histories, world view, cultural identity, cultural norms, religious practices, and child rearing practice. Engage a member of your selected client system/group to observe and interview to learn more about this group. In order to be able to assess and intervene with this group, interview areas to focus on include: cultural identity, cultural norms, world view, religious practices, child rearing practice, sociopolitical histories and acculturation and culture-specific service delivery process. Discuss and address your perceived assumptions and biases, if any, concerning your client system/group. What have you learned about yourself and culture concerning this assignment? What do you need to know and what areas to work on? What could be some implications for social work practice in a multicultural world? What steps will you or should you take or should any social worker take to be culturally aware, culturally sensitive, or to move more toward culturally humility. My family is from Dominica and St Croix USVI. I would like to talk about someone from another area such as Haiti, Jamaica, Germany, Philippines, etc.)
