Paper II is intended to help you write an introduction to an empirical research study akin
to the literature review you see in published research articles. That is, you will write an
introduction to your learned helplessness based on prior research
in the field. Your goal
here will be to first define the concept of learned helplessness and then review relevant
literature that helps you to support your study hypothesis. The good news here is that you
can partially reuse some of the information from P
aper I (article critique paper), relying on
the feedback you received for Paper I as the basis for Paper II. In Paper II, though, you
will use prior research to help justify your study hypotheses. You will need ten references
minimum for Paper II, eight of
which must come from peer
–
reviews, empirical journals.
For Paper II, I recommend that you start your literature review broadly, hinting at your
own study design(It’s about anagram tasks) toward the end of your opening paragraph. Subsequent paragraphs will
talk about research involving learned helplessness. Start with the basics, defini
ng learned
helplessness for you reader and then summarizing research in the area to help you support
your hypotheses. You will end your literature review by noting your specific hypotheses
for the study (Note: all students are focusing on the same hypothes
is, which you can find
in the research instructions you used when you collected your participant data).
VERY IMPORTANT: This is not an article critique paper. It is a synthesis of several prior
articles, all of which help you support your hypothesis. Make
sure that you don’t just list
studies in back
–
to
–
back paragraphs. They should connect to one another, building on each
other until you reach your hypothesis at the end of the paper.
