Dental Hygiene

Dental hygiene is important to overall health. This makes dental specialty a profession highly regarded by the American Dental Association and much dental health oriented organizations both nationally and internationally. There are nine dental specialties, which a dentist can choose to study and these call for additional specialized education beyond ordinary dental education. Out of the nine recognized specialties, the one I love the most is oral and maxillofacial dentistry. This is because other than the challenge of assisting patients with their dental health, it helps in the restoration of their facial features making them to look as beautiful as they wish to be after surgery (Miloro & Kolokythas, 2012).
I like this line of dentistry because it treats defects, diseases and inquiries of the mouth as well as borne structures in of the mouth. It is a field demanding several years of study and practical surgical training beyond the dental studies as it deals with handling of some of the most complicated dental conditions. Other than just focusing on extraction of teeth, it deals with removal of cysts and treatment of oral facial trauma. It is a field that requires collaboration with other specialists like plastic surgeons and ear nose and throat (ENT) specialists in handling of extreme dental conditions (Miloro & Kolokythas, 2012). My liking of oral and maxillofacial dentistry is because it is not just focused on the dental restructuring of the oral formula, but because it focuses on the overall appearance of patients. I love giving people a chance to live a wholesome life without fears and pains and fears about their appearances caused by their dental condition. Because this specification comes with multiple consideration of the dental health of patients, it is my area of interest for ensuring health and beauty after dental complications.
