Question 1 :
Review the six types of non-listeners in the “Listening” as attached in “Mod. 5”. Describe a communication interaction when you or someone you know took on one or more of these roles, e.g. “pseudo listener,” etc? What implications, fictional or otherwise, do one or more of these poor listening skills have for intercultural communication?
Question 2 :
Read Mod. 5. Tell us about an intercultural friendship or romantic relationship you’ve had How did/does it impact your life (pro &/or con)? (The culture can be race, gender, religion, political party, etc.)
Were any inferences made by others based on insufficient information? If so. what were the consequences? See Mod. 5, 8th link down “Conflict Resolution Techniques,” for explanation of these terms.
OR: Comment on this statement in the video in Mod. 5: “68% of intercultural marriages end in divorce,” (compared to 50% in the general population), and/or the disc. re: intercultural relationships in that video.
Question 3 :
Select one or more of the strategies in Mod. 5 and apply toward the resolution of…. a real or fictional intercultural conflict.

In Chapter 8, Hall distinguishes between intercultural and intergroup conflict

A. Keep a record for a day or two of conflicts you find in a newspaper or online news source. Share your list here. Which appear to be intercultural or intergroup and why?

B. Keep a record for a day or two of intergroup conflict you see around you, i.e. friends, family, community. Summarize one or two here and discuss: How did they get started and what strategies for managing conflict (pp. 253-260) would you suggest be used to manage them?

Review the “Cultural Approaches to Conflict” in Chapter 8, pp.229-232
In addition to the ones Hall provides, what example(s) can you add from your own experience or research to illustrate one or more of them. OR you can comment or elaborate on the anecdotes he writes about. You can apply a previously shared conflict to any of these ch. 8 concepts.
Question 6:
See “Chapter 8” as attached on pgs. 233-242 Hall explains different “Types of Intercultural Conflict.” Provide an illustration of one or more of them, using real events (historical, current or from your life) or fictional ones (that you made up or are from a movie or TV show). Explain whether it/they are real or not and how it/they fit Hall’s category/ies.
