Task 2 (A.C 2.1, 2.2)
Explain the differences between the two main classes of hormones in the human body. In addition, using a table compare and contrast the action of hormones with neurons in the nervous system.
Task 3 (A.C 3.1, 3.2, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3)
Provide a detailed analysis of the regulatory functions of the pituitary gland (including its link with the nervous system) and the role of the adrenal gland in maintaining homeostasis. Include in your analysis, descriptions and effects of adrenal gland hormones including adrenaline and the circumstances under which these hormones are produced
1
Explain the difference in action between two main classes of hormones
2.2
Compare and contrast the action of hormones with neurones
3.1
Explain how the pituitary gland regulates other glands
3.2
Describe the link between the pituitary and the nervous system
4.1
Explain the circumstances under which adrenaline is produced
4.2
Describe some of the hormones of adrenal gland and their effects
4.3
Describe the role the adrenal gland plays in maintaining homeostasis
For a Distinction you will have clearly identified at least 7 endocrine organs of the human body and explained fully the regulatory functions of the pituitary and adrenal glands. You will have clearly given at least 6 comparative statements relating to the action of hormones and neurones. Your analysis in Task 3 would demonstrate relevant facts with both depth and breadth demonstrating an excellent understanding of the subject. You will have also explained the roles of insulin and glucagon clearly in relation to homeostasis including reference to negative feedback mechanisms. Your work must be referenced, and written in a coherent and scientific manner throughout the assignment
