Diet in Saudi Arabia: Outline
I. Introduction
The main aim of the research paper is to enlighten the people of Saudi Arabia on the importance of the traditional foods. Most of the people in the current world today including the citizens in Saudi Arabia have embarked on the fast foods. The nature of the jobs that people undertake in the current world forces them to consume more of the fast foods. In return the health of the people slowly but drastically deterrent because of the large intake of the foods (Al-Hazzaa, et al, 2012). In trying to salvage the problem of relaying on the fast foods, the research problem will discuss the factors that promote consumption of the fast foods, the impacts of the consumption and the recommendation of solving the problem at hand. This will ensure that not only the Saudi Arabian citizens but also the entire world will focus on consumption of healthy foods. Some of the several traditional foods consumed in Saudi Arabia encompass of milk, vegetables, pumpkins, yam and cassava gees and cheese.
II. Body
A. Factor that contribute to consumption of the fast foods in Saudi Arabia
Various aspects in the current millennium influence the way the people feed hence affecting the general health of the individuals. In the fight against the large consumption of the first foods in Saudi Arabia and the poor health habits, the traditional healthy foods have need to be rejuvenated back to the eating habits (Janin & Besheer, 2003). Some of the factors that lead to the increase in consumption of the fast foods encompass of:
i. One of the key factors that contribute to the increased consumption of the fast foods is the fact that the foods are cheap and fordable. Most of the fast foods are cheap to purchase and eat. The fact that most of the foods are bought and ready to eat, it implies that the foods are easy to obtain and eat (Long, 2005). This is contrary to the traditional foods that are bought and need to be cooked before eating.
ii. The busy nature of the people especially the mature members of the society forces most of the people to consume the fast foods. Since people work for several hours a day, there is limited time to buy the traditional foods and prepare a proper meal. For this reason, most of the members of the society prefer purchasing the ready to eat fast foods (Suárez-Orozco, 2004). Although purchasing of the foods saves time, it is unhealthy to the healthy being.
iii. The change in the way people live is also an aspect contribute to the way food is consumed in the current world. Most of the people in other parts of the world try to emulate the way the western people live (Harris, 2012). In the process, most people assimilate the feeding habit hence end up consuming more of the fast foods. In some way, the assimilation processes forces the citizen of Saudi Arabia to change the feeding habit (Yackley-Franken, 2007).
iv. The increased advertising and promotion programs in almost all the media encourage the consumption of the fast foods. Since the young generation in Saudi Arabian watches the fast food advertisements on the televisions, they get addicted to fast foods (Lippman & Council on Foreign Relations, 2012).
B. Results and findings
i. In accordance to the research conducted by the Saudi Arabian health and development department, it was found out that almost 50% of all the young children purchase fast foods (Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Washington, 2012).
ii. About 54% of the all, the population of Saudi Arabia consume fast foods in a day instead of the traditional foods that are more nutritious.
iii. The methods used in the collection of the details concerning the feeding habits of the Saudi Arabian encompass of interview, questionnaire and observations.
iv. The primary sources of data collection were preferred to the secondary method of data collection because of the accuracy and availability of the fast hand information. It was easier for information to be retrieved from the people since the people were readily available (Schlosser, 2012).
v. The conclusion obtained from the findings indicates that it is clear that most of the members of the Saudi Arabian society consume more of the fast foods. This contributes to health problems that are associated with diabetics and obesity.
III. Conclusion and Recommendations
It is vivid that most of the members of the Saudi Arabian society depend on the fast foods for survival especially the young generation. This is a risk to the future generation since the young children are the elders of the future (Ham, Brekhus & Madden, 2004). To resolve the problem at hand, various recommendations have to be enacted in the Saudi Arabian community to reduce the consumption of the fast foods. Some of the recommendations encompass of;
i. Educating the members of the Saudi Arabian society on the dangers associated with intake of the fast foods. Education is simply adding knowledge to the members of the Saudi Arabian society concerning the first foods. This will improve the understanding of the dangers that are associated with the fast foods (Shoult, 2005).
ii. Reduction of the advertisements on the televisions concerning the fast foods and the restaurants that offers the foods. The advertisements in the media especially the television entice the young children on the consumption of the fast foods (Al-Hazzaa et la, 2012).
iii. Informative talks in the locality of Saudi Arabian society regarding the nutritious values of the traditional foods such as milk, vegetables and pumpkins to eradicate consumption of the fast foods (Smith, 2012).
