Differences between the Spanish, French and English patterns of colonization
The French colonists differed from both the English and Spanish colonists in the sense that they never mistreated treated their subject. The main aim of the French colonist was not focused on torturing the native people but assimilating them to their culture. The French colonists instead of conquering, they interacted and shared ideas with the natives. This is totally contrary to the English and the Spanish colonists. The key reason for the English colonists was to acquire the available raw material for their industries. They were also interested in the labor of the native Africans. All they needed was the man power which the Africans provided for their industries. However, the Spanish colonists were more interested in spreading of their culture to the natives unlike the French and the English colonists who had their interests at hand.
Another difference between the French, Spanish and the English colonists is the fact that the French colonists practiced frontiers of inclusion and were not interested in developing the countries which they colonized like the English and the Spanish colonists. The French colonists did not intended to stay for long in the native lands but just wanted to assimilate the natives and move after a short period of time. They could build semi-permanent structures that they could use for a short time before their departure. This is also contrary to the English and the Spanish colonists who were interested in developing and building infrastructures in the native countries. For instance the English colonists would construct roads, schools and churches for their subjects. This is also for the case of the Spanish colonists.
A further difference between the French, English and Spanish colonists is the fact that the English and the Spanish colonists had intentions of changing the religion of the native people they colonized. This is completely the opposite of the French colonists. They had no intentions of influencing their subject in terms of religious matters. For example the Spanish had intentions of converting the Indians religions into Catholics. The English colonists also had interests in religious matters. This is shown by their determinations in building of churches for their subjects. The French colonists were interested more in creating their future markets for their manufactured products. They had no intentions of converting the religious status of their subjects.
An extra difference between the Spanish, English and the French colonists is that the English colonists practiced frontiers of exclusion and seemed to concentrate more in conquering new territory. Their main aim was acquiring more Africans and pitting them under their power. The English colonists were mostly interested in slavery trade of the African to their home country so that they could provide the needed labor. This is completely contrary to the intentions of the French and Spanish colonists. For example the French main intentions were to trade and make markets for their industrial products. The French colonists were pleased in trading with the natives and assimilating them into their culture while the Spanish colonists were majorly interested in materials of goods.
An added difference between the English, French and the Spanish colonization is that the Spanish government mostly sent the Spanish colonists without their families, wives and children. This made them to interact with the native people and even intermarried with the natives. This is absolutely contrary with the French and the English colonists. Some of the Spanish colonists even ended up remaining in the native countries to date. The English colonists were very cruel and harsh to their subject. They usually wanted to be in power and control their subjects. This made it hard for them to freely interacting with the natives. The Spanish colonists were also interested in gaining materials goods and products like gold and other precious minerals from their natives.
