Directing a movie

Type shots

In directing the movie, I will make use of extreme wide shot for the movie because of the nature of the surrounding. Jack and Jill are going up a hill, and in order to show the action, I will need to show a wider view of the surrounding. The extreme wide shots will aid in showing that the two are actually going up a hill. The shots show the whole area around the characters with the conveyance of scale and the distance. When fetching water I will make use of the medium wide shots (MWS) in order to show the action occurring. I would make use of the wide shots to show when the Jack fells down thereby breaking his legs.

Camera angles

I would make use of the extreme long shot camera angles in order to bring the view of Jill and Jack climbing the hill. It will give a general impression about the whole hill that the two are climbing. I would make use of the long shot in showing Jack felling down while also showing Jill coming tumbling after. In showing Jack’s broken crown, I would apply the close up concentrating on the crown. It will help in magnifying the broken crown bringing the details related to the breakage.

Camera movements

I would make no camera movement when showing the two going up the hill. I would tilt the camera downwards in the event of showing Jack falling down. I would make use of the zoom to show the Jack’s broken crown and the hill. The zooming will make the broken crown be clearer to the viewers. I would make use of panning in order to show Jill coming tumbling after. This helps in removing focus from Jack’s broken crown to actions by Jill.

The lens movements

I would apply no lens movement in the case when Jack and Jill are moving up the hill. I would use the zoom out to bring the bigger picture of the hill as there is no need for other nuances. I would make use of the zoom out to show Jack falling down in order to give the viewers the general details about the action. I would make use of zoom in to give the viewers closer details about Jack’s broken crown. The zoom will give details about the selected broken crown allowing viewers to make sense out of the breakage.

Type of focus

I would make use of the wider depth of the field to help in showing Jack and Jill climbing up the hill. This helps in giving general details about the hill and the two climbing. I would make use of soft focus in order to show details about Jack’s broken crown without showing anything else. Further, I would apply the focus “pulled” to ensure that the viewers only concentrate on Jack and Jill fetching water. I would make use of the narrow depth of the field when showing Jill coming tumbling since it helps to make the viewers concentrate on Jill running. Narrow depth of the field will also apply in bringing to focus Jack falling down.

Type of lighting to use

I will make use of the existing light when showing the two climbing up the hill as this will help in giving the film a realistic look. I will also apply the artificial lightning during the filming especially in the scene when Jack breaks his crown. This gives assurance of high quality pictures needed for the viewing of the breakage. I would make use of the colored filters give special effects especially when there is a need to change the light effects.

Type of music

I would make use of soft music when Jack falls down the hill in order to evoke emotions and feelings inside the viewers.

The location for filming and description of the location

I would make use of location filming. Location shooting involves filming in the actual setting that is on the hill. This could be easier as compared to the studio shooting where I would have to manipulate the hill.

Choose American child actors

I will choose Nicholas Art (Jack) and Willie Aames (Jill)
