The purpose of this assignment is to help you think about and remember the history and legislation of transportation. I do not expect you to conduct research beyond the infomation provided in class materials and lectures. The page limit is meant to be a kindness to you… you could easily write 75 pages… the Smithsonian has dedicated 20,000 square feet of floor space to the history of transportation, and the Transportation Research Board has an active committee that perpetuates research on the topic every year. You need to find a way to integrate and summarize the history and legislation in a meaningful way, such that you will have it as a resource to inform you in your own current and future work. You also need to have the ability to explain it to anyone who wants to understand why the transportation system functions as it does today and why you do the things you do and propose the things you propose.
