Evidence-based practice has been applied to improve, challenge, advance and evaluate practices in nursing and other health professions. Today, evidence-based practices provide a significant approach in facilitating the provision of quality health care services to patients. Although the dissemination of knowledge serves as a crucial step in evidence-based practice, it poses a challenge to many researchers. Dissemination of evidence refers to the strategies and mechanism through which a specific group of individuals become aware and utilize information obtained in the research project (Dozios, 2013).
The key stakeholders in this research project include doctors, nurses, hospital-based policy makers and other relevant health related institutions. In order to disseminate knowledge to the policy makers and health-based institutions, journal publishing, hospital/organization based, or professional committee meetings will be organized. The journal publishing will be made in health based journals targeting the key stakeholders. According to Coopey, Nix & Clancy, (2007), publishing of articles in peer-reviewed journals provides accurate, valid and reliable information that can be applied in health practice. During the professional committees or hospital based meetings oral presentations will be used in presenting the information.
In addition, posters and education meetings will be held within the health institutions. The posters and education meeting will mainly target the nursing community. The posters will contain colorful diagrams describing Fall prevention for hospitalized patients. The poster will serve as reminders and educational instruments to the nursing staff.
The education meetings will be held within the hospital where nursing staff from different departments will be invited. Certificate of participation and soft drinks will be served after the meeting to motivate the nursing staff to attend the meeting. During this education meeting, mitigation practices, for example, screening of risk population and early detection of disease will be emphasized. According to Dozios, (2013), education meetings allow for interaction and participation of the audience. This allows the facilitator to address any issues or concerns raised by the nursing staff concerning the topic of discussion.
In conclusion, information dissemination forms a crucial part in the utilization of information gathered in the research project. It is crucial to understand the target audience and prepare appropriate strategies in disseminating information. This allows the research to select the appropriate strategy and instrument to apply in distributing the knowledge gathered.
