Persuasive/Argumentative Essay Assignment
Prompt: 1. Do you think it is justifiable to violate certain civil liberties in the name of national security?
You may argue for or against the prompt. You must choose one side; you cannot choose a “neutral” position or simply say “I don’t know” or “I don’t care either way”. Your thesis statement should clearly state what your focus will be.
Sources: You must include at least five sources, which should be cited in APA format both within your paper and in a references list at the end. We will go over APA citation in class. Your sources can be from books, journals, newspapers, or web sites. You will need to put them into APA format yourself, and you should see me, your tutor, or the Write Place for assistance with this if you haven’t done it before.
This draft should be 1,200-1,800 (MINIMUM 1200 WORDS) and it should be an example of your best writing at this point. In addition, it should show proper APA formatting and source citation.
