Double application of sponsorship
1. What have you learned from this experience?
I have learned from this incident to be careful, and not to make any mistakes in my educational future. Taking responsibility of this incident, I will flow the school policy. As a human Being, I made a mistake, but I believe this lease. No one is perfect in the world except God. In my life, I have never ever imagined making a mistake purposely to harm my feelings. But, this incident that accidentally happened in my educational life has a big impact on my life. It created a bad image in my future and I believe I got a lesson from it, to respect and follow the college policy.
2. What will you do differently if the same situation should arise in the future?
When faced with a similar situation in the future, I would be keener to know how to deal with the problem. I understand that it is not easy to keep a clear mind when faced with such a situation. However, it is my responsibility, to maintain my focus on the positive end of any situation, which I face. Instead of running up and down trying to convince people to understand me, I would instead, look for rational ways of getting myself from the problem, like writing an apology letter to the administration. This would save me from holding people accountable for my problems because they have refused to understand why I made a mistake.
3. Why are you a Metro student? What is your purpose for being here?
I am a metro student because I need to gain more information and knowledge in my field of study. My purpose for being here is acquiring knowledge, which I would use in future. Being part of a community, my purpose is further to learn how to co-exist with my peers, and learn the importance of staying in a community where people have varied ideas and information. I would also like to be present for my colleagues whenever they are in need. This would protect them from avoiding the temptation, which I faced when I double applied for sponsorship funding.
4. Explain your responsibility as a community member and what you will do in the future to make sure you are meeting the responsibilities and expectations granted to you upon your admission to the institution.
As a community member it is important that I take the problems of others into consideration. It is the essence of being there for those who are in need, by not leaving them struggling with their problems in solitude. Having been in a similar situation before, helping other students whenever they are in need is fulfilling (Zhang & Bob 251-266). When I join the institution, I will design a student fee saving project to help needy students. This program will be a student initiative for saving fellow students from the problem of settling their fees. It will sensitize fellow students on the best ways of saving to assist needy students.
5. How do questions/statements above impact your future goals and aspirations as a student at the college?
The questions above help me to realize the mistake I did when I tried to fraud the institution. By reflecting on how I handled the situation and the designing alternatives, I am able to find means of making quick critical thinking when faced with a problem instead of trying to justify my ill acts. The realization of my position in the community as a metro student makes me to stay focused in setting my goals for the future. I have finally realized that It is not about me as an individual in the society but as a student, I am a part of the community.
6. Reflect on your behavior in this incident. Specifically, talk about how you handled the situation and ways that you could have handled the incident more appropriately.
When handling this situation, I was very irrational. I could not accept the situation as easily as I would now. This is something that I would sure avoid should I meet such a challenge in the future. I was to maintain a sound mind when tackling the problem. Instead, I found myself overwhelmed by the potentiality of facing the loss of my metro academic chance. I wasted so much time trying to justify my mistake instead of accepting it and possibly apologizing before it got late.
7. What are some of the potential consequences of your actions? How do your actions, during this incident, have a negative impact on your community?
The consequence of attempted fraud on sponsorship funds is ultimate expulsion from the institution. I risked blocking from any future sponsorship application for the sake of my education (GEORGIEVA 67-79). My action has brought about suspicion on every sponsorship application, which will ever come from a needy student. Stricter measures may be placed to verify student identity before any funds could be accorded to them. This would block out needy students who may be in need of sponsorship desperately.
8. What is your understanding of why Metro has this policy?
The reason for having this policy is for ensuring that all needy students access the available sponsorship funds. When one student doubles his application, it means that other students would miss out the availability of the funding opportunities (GEORGIEVA 67-79). Metro therefore ensures that fairness is observed and maintained when processing sponsorship applications. Any discrepancies are handled depending with the nature of the offence to alleviate chances of engaging in fraudulent sponsorship application.
9. How were your personal values a factor in your decision making in this situation?
I am not a quick thinker. This prevented me from making of a fast decision regarding the matter. I knew that I could not revoke what had happened. My responsibility was, therefore, to humble myself, accept responsibility and apologize for my mistake. However, my defensive nature hindered quick decision making regarding the matter, and that led to stricter punishments for my case (Zhang & Bob 251-266)
