I want to focus mostly focus on the story Separate Ways by Higushi Ichiyo. The class is reading stories out of The Oxford Book of Japanese Short Stories, and focusing on Japaneses literature and Japanese culture. All sources should come from this book. The other story sources can come from is Growing Up written by Higuchi Ichiyo, which isn’t located in the book. The subject is to focus on the struggle between working hard for your money, or to take the easy route to either marry or sell your body for money. Okyo in the story Separate Ways works as a seamstress making dresses and makes almost no money, but she makes money the honorable way.
