Every teacher must ensure he connects with the students so they can perform highly in their academics. As a teacher, I am a patient individual with my students. I realize that students are diverse and can never perform equally. However, I also know that in each student lies a potential to perform. Due to this, I ensure that I interact with each student so I can get to know them personally. After I develop a personal relationship with the student, I am able to know where their potential lies. If a student is good in sciences for instance, I ensure they have the required needs so they can be excellent in their performance. However, if they are poor in languages, I ensure they get assistance so that they can attain average marks. This is done through encouraging the student that they too are able to make it. Encouragement helps a student feel they are worth and their efforts are being appreciated. This allows students to learn to put much effort in subjects they are poor at and this finally improves the average grade.
My first encounter with a student matters a lot to me. I normally want to accommodate them so they can stay close to me. Being free with your students assists them to open up and share their fears which enable me to know their weak points. Once a good rapport is developed between my students and I, they are able to freely ask questions and class lessons become lively. This attitude ensures I take care of each student differently. Some will want to contribute much in class while others will appreciate if they had a personal encounter with me so they could ask questions. I therefore give time to my students after every lesson so they can approach me with questions. This has enabled even the introverts get a chance to share.
If students attain a lower grade than expected, I avoid scolding them much or giving them the impression that they cannot make it in life. Instead, I encourage them to check their failures and work from there. I realize that if a high performers scores below average, then there could be a problem with them. My patience allows me to take time to find out how I can help. Talking well with the students may allow them to open up and at times it happens that they undergo personal problems. Such problems may affect their performance and once I understand their difficulties, I can assist them come over it. This makes it possible for the student to improve.
M y patient character allows me to accommodate slow learners. I realize that the ability to understand cannot be equal all through and because of this; I give more attention to the slow learners. I allow them take time to grasp concepts and ask questions. I give them extra attention through separate classes as well so they can catch up with the other students. Thus, patience will give them time to grasp the concepts and finally the whole class is able to perform well. Through this, all the needs of my students are catered for differently, depending on the student I am dealing with. With the accomplishment of these, they are able to perform excellently in their academics. This encourages them to enhance and nurture other talents as well.
