More inclusive, ‘deliberative’ community and stakeholder engagement is seen as one of the core facets of strategic spatial planning. It is something that we’ve not been particularly good at here in NSW in recent times, and best practice examples from elsewhere around the world have helped expose the limitations seen in consultation activity tied to strategic planning activity in Sydney.
This essay will present:
1. a case as to why, as well as how, effective communication is integral to the strategic planning process,
2. and how it might be appropriately incorporated into broader planning frameworks and activities.
3. practice examples from elsewhere around the world have helped expose the limitations seen in consultation activity tied to strategic planning activity in Sydney.
4. you should consider recent (the Metropolitan Plan itself, New Parramatta Road, Urban Activation Precincts) and current examples (Bays Precinct) of community engagement conducted in the name of strategic planning. (Sydney example)
* Actually my subject is urban planning, so the writing should be related on urban planning and strategic planning.
