Everyday Life in Our World

In the articles you’ve read for Week 2, there is definitely a sense of place and identity conveyed in each one.  Some authors focus on families or personal experiences of places or events.  In your own life, you may have a story that conveys something to you with MEANING, a story that’s important to you.  For this assignment, choose ONE article and write a detailed analysis of what the article MEANS to you.  You can discuss the author’s use of imagery, description, tone, etc. that builds around one central idea in the article.  Then compare it to a story in your life with a similar meaning.  Make sure you are connecting your own story to the assigned article by using quotes or paraphrases from the author’s essay. You may use the “I” in your writing but do it sparingly.

You can use www.m-w.com to look up (and help you to pronounce) words you are unfamiliar with.  This MUST be a FOCUSED discussion of ONE of the assigned articles!

“The Santa Ana” by Joan Didion

“Silent Dancing” by Judith Ortiz Cofer
