Explanatory Synthesis: The explanatory research assignment should result in a five-page paper that successfully explains the dynamics of a complex debate of your choice relevant to one of the chapters we have read in the chapter on obedience. Remember that you are explaining the relationships between the various sides of a debatable issue, not advocating any one position. You must cite (using the MLA format) at least five sources in your essay, in addition to the WRIT 110 course texts.
Your essay will be evaluated according to the appropriateness and insightfulness of your thesis, the development of your explanation, the effectiveness of your organization and the clarity of your expression. As always, use the MLA format for internal parenthetical entries and your Works Cited list.
