At Stellar University, there is a perceived need for full-time faculty development. Other than an orientation session for new faculty, there is no formal training and development for teaching, research, advising, etc. Faculty reside at “off-site” campuses spread throughout the West coast. These faculty are not on tenure track; teaching is their primary focus. However, there is a need for scholarship in order to keep current in their fields and bring the latest research to their students.
A task force was recently developed to make a proposal for faculty development. This proposal will go to the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs. There is also a faculty governing group, called Faculty Council Executive Board (FCEB) that represents faculty at the off-site campuses.
Your OD consulting firm has been hired by the task force to lead this initiative. You are preparing for your first meeting with the task force one week from today.
1. Select Kotter’s 8-step change model or Jackson’s Organizational Change Process as your overall strategy. Explain why you made this selection and how this model will serve you and your client to fulfill their purpose.
2. Develop a plan of action, being as specific as possible.
