Final Written Project
Abstract
Federal aviation administration is a body dealing with the flight and air transport concerns. The United States Defense Department works closely with the agency in training the military personnel on flight and civil aviation techniques (FAA, 2009). The air traffic controllers are recruited and obtain critical guidelines from the Federal Aviation Administration. The air Traffic Controllers fosters the flight safety through the utilization of modern appliances and greater levels of efficiency. The air traffic controllers are subjects to attaining education that obeys specific standards as stated by the Federal Aviation Administration. Federal Aviation Administration is in charge of regulating the flight operations. Training requirements are to be attained in appropriate standards to embrace quality features to enable them tackle challenging field activities. The analysis of the future employment advancements avails the speculations on the future expectations of the occupation and its path (Picket, Laster & Staples, 2001). The research intends to provide an elaboration on the air traffic control as a profession in the US army.
Introduction
The Federal Aviation Administration is essential in the United States transportation sector since the agency is responsible for designing the transportation stipulations. The standards set by for the tackling of the Federal Aviation Administration are critical in determining the airships and the overall air transportation performance. Besides the regulations fostered by the federal aviation administration, the body is also essential in its contribution to the American economy. The country’s economy is fundamental in determining the way in which the development activities and the populations living standards. Concerning the economy, the research will focus on all the implications attributed to by the federal aviation administration on the economy. The transportation is only possible with the implementation of appropriate guidelines that foster efficient taking off and effective landing. A traffic air controller is crucial in all the aircraft operations and their transport. This report gears all its objectives towards the factors that influence air traffic control, the input and outputs of the Air Traffic Control Systems (FAA, 2007).
The first objective of the research is to determine the necessary education. The report will also focus on the appropriate documentation and training, the purposes the benefits and analysis for the future developments in employment. The air traffic controllers scrutinize the taking off, flight and the landing to avert accidents, delays and the fatal situations in air transport. The report will be determined at answering the question on whether the Federal Aviation Administration has experienced significant changes in its policies and regulations. The regulations regards the operations of air Traffic Control Systems (Andrews & Andrews, 2003).
Methodology
The technique incorporated utilizing both the primary data and the secondary data to obtain information about the Federal aviation administration. The primary data could incorporate the interviews from the aviation personnel and the agency experts. The interview enabled for the obtaining of the current updates and information about the institution. The interview also provided a flexible avenue for the acquisition of the most current information from the source. The primary sources of information also allowed for the practical observation to enhance logicality about the research in place (Alfred, Brusaw & Oliu, 2009). The secondary data incorporated obtaining information from the reference materials. The reference materials included the articles, journals, catalogues and the main publications about the federal aviation administration and the Air Traffic Control Systems.
Findings
Education
The research led to the realization that the air traffic controllers can follow three different educational ways to attain employment. The first way requires that one must attain at least a degree at the university or at the college level with a perfect efficiency in the air control systems. The job can also be obtained by the general public who studies a the aviation schools and finally obtaining the merit at the federal aviation administration’s air training collegiate program. The completion of collage prep prospectus was counseled. The critical area of study in the Air and Traffic Control profession incorporates mathematics and science because they directly articulate to the course demands.
The federal aviation administration has formulated the best programs of the course, and there is a necessity for one to register for one of programs to become an air traffic controller. The education requirements also stipulate one to attain best grades in the pre employment test. The test determines the students’ abilities for the occupation and have either accomplished a minimum of four years in the collage or three years of field experience or incorporated both requirements. Through the US army, the demands entail accomplishment of one year of intensive guidelines at the Federal aviation agency situated in Oklahoma. The training received in Oklahoma includes the basics of the airway coordination, civil air controls, radar and airplane operations features. The US army recruits identified for training as the air traffic controllers trains on contraptions designed to foster urgent situations to establish their emotional potential under stress. Those who manage to complete the training have distinct standards and are employed by the Federal Aviation Administration (NRC, 2005).
Training
The training proceeds during the work and the newly employed controllers also obtain classroom guidelines. Complete certification of a new controller may take a period of up to three years. The time for the certification depends on the nature of the facility. The facilities are characterized by complexity and the extent of the facilities complications directly dictates the time for the training accomplishment. The air traffic controllers have to be certified at every improvement stage of air traffic control, which is always stipulated at a particular period. The specifications entitle the system to be strict to an extent that the inability of an individual to attain certification in any of the stages renders dismissal from the course. The verification of the air traffic controllers’ success is achieved by the excellence in the annual physical examinations and presentation appraisals.
Credentials
The credentials in the air traffic control are associated with the mode of training and the institutions attended. The qualifications include a prior military experience and the degree from an ascribed institution by the Federal aviation administration. The controllers must possess a Medical certificate mandated bi the Federal Aviation Administration. The agency demands that the controller have to manifest excellent fitness in performing their responsibilities in the military. The qualifications for the certificate entail attaining a twenty of twenty corrected vision, no hearing loss past twenty-five decibels at any sound wave frequency and twenty decibels in the better ear by eudiometry. The person must undergo a thorough health examination to ascertain a total absence of mental illness, drug use relating to the psycho activity, substance abuse or the cardiovascular conditions. The controllers must also acquire the certification for the overall completion of the training on the required period and specifications (Colbert, 2004).
The typical duties
The controllers have fundamental tasks in the army that are basic for the effective flow in the air transport. The air traffic controllers adjust and normalize the en route and the terminal traffic. The controllers have to hold effective skills in their practice of controlling the aircraft and their spacing to avert dangerous situations in military air operations. The adjustments in the air spacing ensure that the air traffic is properly manned to avoid air jams that may promote accidents and commotions. The controllers are responsible for starting and providing the clearances of the air traffic control. The clearance is the confirmation on the safety of the aircraft that has to meet all the safety measures before the issue. The controllers are also mandated to provide advisories and guidelines, which targets the safety measures in air transport. The controllers act as the overall viewers of the airfields since they monitor the overall movements of the aircrafts in the respective towers. Therefore, they are responsible for issuing the appropriate directives to the pilots on the safest way to fly.
Potential salaries and other benefits
The salaries paid to the army traffic controllers depend on the educational qualifications and the work experience. The air traffic controllers earn salaries ranging from twenty one thousand to forty five thousand dollars. The payment variations depend on the time of work in a week, month and year. The Federal aviation Administration policies stipulate that controllers to a forty-hour work in a week. The controllers may work for extra time for which they are paid separately on an overtime basis. The air traffic controllers earn other benefits such as the life insurance, health insurance, the risk allowances and the retirement benefits. The life insurance is meant to cater for the next of kin and the overall family of the officer after the controller’s death. The medical insurance incorporated in the benefits is responsible for aiding in the officer’s health expanses in case of ailments and health conditions. The risk insurance assures the air traffic controllers welfare for any uncertainty in the military such as accidents.
Analysis of the future employment and advancements
The future advancements in the Air Traffic Control profession depend on the current issues emerging in the Federal aviation Administration as an agency and the overall military standards. There bare two factors that will directly determine the advancement of the Traffic Air Control Systems such as security and technology. The future employment will contain the highest degree of expertise in the use of technology in the, airfield organization (McKinney, 2002). The defense sector has undergone a series of technical developments involving the application of software in the devices used for the regulation of the air traffic. Se
