Find a total of two ‘scary’ Naxos tracks to share, both of them from historical style periods we have studied so far (no later than the Baroque era.)

Task: find a total of two ‘scary’ Naxos tracks to share, both of them from historical style periods we have studied so far (no later than the Baroque era.)

Each track must be correctly identified with composer name, title of the piece, movement (if applicable), style period – Baroque, Renaissance, or Middle Ages – and approximate date of composition. Explain why you think each track fits the “scary” theme of this Halloween season discussion. Be sure your two Naxos tracks are correctly linked at the top of your post. Supply a bibliography of urls for your sources at the end of your post.
There are many more you may find in your research to choose from….
Find out the time period and location in which that person lived. Determine which music history period fits the lifetime of your chosen scary person. (Remember, your music and historical person must have lived prior to 1750.) Look up composers who lived in Europe at about the same time, run searches in Naxos to find music from which to choose the two tracks for your post.

2. Find music that is scary due to its musical content or title.
This is a little harder than the first option. Below I’ve given you a place to start….
I ran a simple google search, looking for “baroque music for Halloween”. From the list of results, I saw a review of a Halloween themed concert program at this site, below. This group specializes in early music (mostly Baroque and earlier).

Reading through this concert review, notice that there are composers and titles in it that you can run further searches for in google and in Naxos until you make your choice of two tracks for the post. Chances are most of them fit our “pre 1750” criteria. You might find other composers or pieces during your search that are appropriate for this assignment. Be sure to say in your post exactly why you selected it as “scary” – the title of the piece or something the music is supposed to depict, the occasion it was written for, some musical detail in how it sounds.

BE CAREFUL with this second approach: most lists of scary music that come up easily in a google search include pieces and composers from later time periods (after 1750). Music written after 1750 will NOT count towards a passing grade for this assignment.

Your main post (60 points, approx. 500-700 words) must include:

• Two tracks from Naxos, correctly chosen from the time periods specified

• Each of the two tracks must be correctly linked to the post using Naxos static urls, so that any reader of your post can click them to quickly listen to the track.

• Full identification of each track with composer name, piece name, movement (if taken from a multi-movement work) and approx. year it was composed. Identify the musical style period: Middle Ages, Renaissance or Baroque

• Why you chose each track as “scary”. In addition to the facts you found in your research, include at least one specific musical observation you made in your extensive listening for each track. Pinpoint your musical observations with the track time where it occurs.

• A short bibliography at the end with urls to each source. Make sure your urls are correct , so that any interested reader can visit those sites. Limit your sources to those that can be accessed on the internet by your classmates.

Hint: Two tracks from Naxos, correctly chosen from the time periods specified you must choose songs from this site and put the link in my essay
