FINAL PROJECT
This is meant to be a CREATIVE presentation of your understanding of criminological theory. Thus, you may present a traditional essay, but feel free to add images, graphics, etc. You may present using a format such as PowerPoint, Prezi, or any other presentation software/online offering. There are even sites where you can create your own website for free. I’ve had students make YouTube videos, or even submit a hard-copy poster. Any of these are available based upon your preference. The only thing is that the focus is on the substance/content of the theories you’re presenting and how you’re applying them to the case study.

First, pick TWO theoretical frameworks (Rational Choice, Trait, Social Structure, Social Process, Conflict/Critical, Developmental and other typologies) and thoroughly present WHY there may be excessive crime violence in Chicago and other urban areas.
Next, pick at least 2 specific sub-theories from these two frameworks and describe some of the methods The Interruptors are attempting to use to curb the violence and how those methods may or may not work at reducing the crime. Remember to make the theories the star of this project. Use the documentary and other relevant resources to show specific examples of your selected theories and how it portrays causation and explanation of crime, as well as how the methods may or may not be successful at reducing crime.
There isn’t any sort of length parameter on this because it will vary greatly on which method of presentation you select. The focus is still on the substantive material, the theories, and how well you display your knowledge, understanding, and application of these theories. Standard APA format/rules still apply. When you use someone else’s work, you still need to cite it both within the text and in the reference page at the end.
The BEST papers will be thorough, detailed presentations of the theoretical material as it applies to this documentary. There will also be a “WOW” factor in how that information is creatively presented. Think of it as about 90% of the grade will be based upon the substance and the other 10% will be based upon the creative presentation of the substance.
