General William Tecumseh Sherman and his March to the Sea

This Research Paper needs to be on Union General William Tecumseh Sherman and his war champaign (Sherman’s March to the Sea) and its effects on the war. Along with its effects on military tactics in general. The thesis needs to be directly related to the Generals champaign and his effect on war tactics along with any pertinent background information on general and his champaign. I also need an outline of the paper. The detailed requirements for this outline and the paper are listed below.

Scholarship Paper: You are required to write one, 10 page paper on a topic of your choice that is related to the Civil War. The topic must be submitted and approved by me before you complete the paper. This assignment requires you to first to critically analyze primary resources and then to research related secondary sources as you develop the paper. It provides you with the opportunity to develop research and writing skills as well as synthesize knowledge about an important subject. The paper will be submitted via the Dropbox. You will submit a clear thesis statement which identifies the topic and argument of your scholarship paper. The thesis statement will be between 1-5 sentences and should clearly convey your historical argument. Along with the thesis, you will create and submit an outline of your paper. This outline must contain a minimum of 3 main topics, with a minimum of 3 subcomponents for each main topic. This is due no later than the end of week 3.

Your paper will identify at least six examples of primary sources (letters, diaries, publications, etc.) related to the issue. NOTE: Wikipedia is NOT an acceptable primary or secondary source. You must also:

• Consider an issue relevant to the course and have instructor’s approval of the topic.

• Construct a thesis statement and submit an outline of the paper as described above.

• Consult a number of additional secondary sources that help develop the thesis.

• Incorporate an introduction, body, and conclusion.

• Organize paragraphs with approximately eight sentences developing a single topic.

• Elaborate major points with a degree of specificity.

• Clarify premises using coherent diction.

• Avoid spelling errors, improper grammar, flawed punctuation, and awkward language.

• Include 8-10 pages of fully typed text, using one inch margins, double spaced, 12 point font, approximately 250 words per page.

• Use the Chicago manual of style consistently and correctly; Rampolla’s A Pocket Guide to Writing in History is one of your texts and should be consulted extensively.

• Add a bibliography.
