This is my PICO question: How effective are hip protectors in preventing in the elderly?
Assignment requirements:
This assignment requires you to reflect on your clinical experiences to identify a question to be searched which is of interest to you. You will need to explain how and why you developed your question. You will be required to identify 5 relevant studies and state how you found these through a detailed description of your search strategy. Finally you will be asked to reflect on this activity.
Please note the research question you develop and the studies you find will be used in NURS 3046 Nursing Project and NURS 3049 Midwifery Project.

Assessment details:
Develop a research question from ONE of these health themes:
– Mothers and babies
– Children and families
– Acute care settings
– Older people
– Mental health
– Rural and remote health
Use a database to identify 5 studies that address your question. The studies should not be systematic reviews or literature reviews.
You can use any database that you are familiar with but you may like to become familiar with PubMed as you will be able to continue to use this database once you graduate. See assignment 2 help for more information about using this data base.
Plan a search strategy to locate specific research articles related to your research question. A detailed description of your search strategy is needed
Discuss how your research strategy went. In this section you will be required to identify exactly how your search went, e.g. how many hits you got, how and why you refined your search and exactly how you identified relevant studies.
List the 5 research articles you found. Briefly state how together they are a good fit for your question

_Theme : I have chosen Older people theme
_Why: I am interested in older people theme because they have a significant health issues, one of these issues is fall fractures which is a massive. Falls resulting in hip fractures are a major cause of injury and even death to the elderly. Hip fractures are serious fall injuries that often result in long-term functional impairment, nursing home admission and increased mortality. 1,2 As our population ages, the number of hip fractures is likely to increase annually, there are at least 258,000 cases present to hospitals in United State of America for hip fractures among people aged 65 and older (Centers of Disease Control And Prevention 2015). In the United Kingdom there were around 60,000 cases in emergency departments for hip fracture (The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence 2012). In Australia 17,000 hospital addmisions each year (Minimum Standards for the Management of Hip Fracture in the Older Person 2014, p. 1)
_State research question: How effective are hip protectors in preventing in the elderly?
Hip protector definition is a specialized form of pants or underwear containing pads (either hard or soft) along the outside of each hip/leg, designed to prevent hip fractures following a fall. They are most commonly used in elderly individuals who have a high risk of falls and hip fractures (for example, due to history of a previous fall and underlying (Holzer G & LA 2007)
_Process of writing: I have used PICO framework. The PICO process is a technique used in evidence based practice to frame and answer a clinical question The PICO framework is also used to develop literature search strategies. The PICO acronym stands for P – patient, problem or population, I – intervention, C – comparison, control or comparator, O- outcomes ( RE) Population of interest (in the elderly), the Intervention (hip protectors), the Comparison (hip fractures), and the Outcome (prevening ).
Search strategy (500 words)
– Name the electronic database you used and briefly state why you used it.
– List the key words you used and how you used these (you may like to indicate how you used PICO and PIO to identify key words, how you limited your search terms, if you used truncation, abbreviations, wildcards and Boolean operators which ones you used and why )
– Explain in detail how you implemented your search strategy (it should be very clear in this explanation how you arrived at your 5 articles and how you chose these from the hundreds/thousands of hits that you may have had)
Results (500 words)
– List the 5 relevant research articles you found correctly annotating your list in UniSA Harvard style.
– Give a one or two sentence summary as to why these articles together are a good fit for your research question. You may refer back to PICO or PIO. (Note you do not need to summarise the article content as this is part of your assessment in Nursing/midwifery project)
Discussion (total of 800 words)
-Discuss how the process of writing a research question and identifying related evidence has broadened your understanding of evidence for nursing and midwifery practice.

Remembering that you are using screen shots using many words in your search string the finished assignment may not total 2800 words but still be the equivalent.
I have also been receiving many queries about writing in first person, as will all assignments you need to write in third person where possible although obviously in the reflection section you may write in first person
