How the internet has changed world culture
Introduction
The impact of the internet in the present society is far too great. The advancement of the internet has been attributed to other inventions namely the computer. The internet has been of great implication to the US society considering its versatility and flexibility to work in varied aspects of our lives. The internet has made it possible to email, messaging instantly, online research of products and purchase among others. It is simply a great tool for communication in the US. According to the Chronicle of Higher Education Cole states that 70 % and above of US citizens use the internet monthly and a mean user uses it almost 12 hours weekly (Elliott, April 14, 2008). The manner in which we communicate has also transformed, performing research, shopping and interaction abroad. The internet with the help of the computer is an international link in addition to it being a facility of huge proportions. The manner in which politics is done has transformed same as the way we earn money and get involved in social groups and cultures.
In politics, the computer that is internet enabled provides people with information of the prevailing news; upcoming elections, and modes of making voting decisions. The campaigns have also been placed in the internet by varied candidates as a tool to advance their prominence. The democrats and the republicans are on the rise with the use of emails and web sites as well as blogs among others. Similarly the use of social sites like Facebook, MySpace and Friendster advance in reaching voters.
In the economic sector, the internet and definitely the computer have led to great economic ripping for the world. There are various products in the internet for purchase. Online business persons put to use the views they get about their products for a better product hence acquiring more revenue. The consumer’s knowledge is hence used to make money. Using internet 7, businesses are able to analyze the trends of businesses and make great decisions involving a lot of money.
Socially, the internet has had great effect on the society and culture. In the prior life, we used to use letters to pass information, which could take time before it is received or even end up missing. Presently, we use instant emails to reach everybody around the world. We are able to get in contact with our friends, family and friends globally. The world has been made but a small community where everything is online by just clicking button.
On the hand the internet is negative in the rise of sexual information children are able to access from the internet. Sex chat and time spent on the internet is increasingly becoming a nuisance as well as a case for concern. The reliance has gone overboard; people depend on the internet for virtually everything. This has led to poor health as no form of exercising the body is normally done. Young people are now being recruited in the terrorist websites all due to access of a computer and the internet and get involved in intense activities.
