Human computer interaction

Human computer interaction is a field that is developing at a recognizable field through its exploration of visual and auditory senses of the human being. There is much exploitation of these two senses because the others are not east to display within the virtual environment. During human interaction with remote system in a virtual environment, a hap-tic devise can display the human sense used. There is a variation in the haptic devises by type and size and they perform different activities. There are some small tactile devices, which can only display images of the size of fingertips to very large ones, which can display the motion of the entire body.
Many haptic devices use motors and brakes for the generation of power to produce haptic effects. Motors are capable of generating adequate amounts of torque at a reasonable speed required for the process. The challenge is that as much as the force can produce sustainable force for maintaining the haptic system, it can be unstable on some occasions and this can degrade the feelings of a user. This is contrary to the brake, which is always stable for its dissipation of energy and generation of large amounts of torque per unit mass in comparison to the motor. Another advantage of the brakes over the motor is that it is portable and consumes very little energy.
For the reason of the possibility of developing passive virtual environments, passive actuators like brakes are suitable for using in haptic devices because of their efficiency. The challenge with brakes is that they can only produce torque in the direction of their motion or against torques externally applied. It is a suitable feature when considering stability though in hap-tic devices, it leads to poor performance for the lack of generation of torque in all directions. It is also incapable of producing quick responses for the display of fast haptic effects.
