 Choose several important facts from the item and list them in a document.
 Write two paragraphs that discuss the importance and weaknesses of the information.

1. Identify 10 facts from the item you explored and type your facts into a document.
2. Follow the guidelines below when selecting and typing your facts into your document.
What is a fact? A fact is a piece of meaningful and important information.
When listing your facts….
 Use complete sentences and include at least 15-20 words for each fact.
 Focus on meaningful and important concepts. Avoid small, insignificant pieces of
information such as word definitions, dates, or numbers.
 Be detailed and descriptive. Thoroughly describe the piece of information.
 Ensure that each fact is unique. Avoid repeating similar information in each fact.
 Select information from the beginning, middle, and end of the item you explored.
 Poor Fact: Young children do not like vegetables.
 Good Fact: Young children have sensitive taste buds, which can make it difficult for
them to enjoy bitter foods, like broccoli or asparagus.

Important Note: Use your own words. Copying or quoting information in any part of this
assignment will result in a zero for the entire assignment.
1. Write a paragraph that answers ALL the following questions.
 Why is the information presented in your facts important? (Focus on a few
individual facts and explain why these specific ideas are important.)
 How might this information be helpful to you or others? (Describe 2-3 detailed and
specific examples that illustrate how the information may be useful in everyday life.)

 Poor Statements: Knowing that children do not like vegetables can be helpful. This
information can be used when preparing meals for children.
 These statements are vague and general. They do not mention exactly what
information is helpful, nor do they mention exactly how it can be used.
 Good Statements: When serving vegetables to children, individuals should be
mindful of their sensitive taste buds. Parents may find it helpful to serve small
portions to children to allow them to become familiar with the bitter tastes.
 These statements are detailed and specific. They mention a specific fact t (i.e.,
children have sensitive taste buds) and provide a clear example of how this
information may be applied in everyday life.

1. Write a paragraph that answers ALL of the following questions.
 What weaknesses do you see with the arguments or ideas presented in the item?
 For this question, focus on problems with experiments that were conducted or
information that you thought was flawed or questionable.
 DO NOT talk about missing information or the lack of supporting research.
Statements like, “More data/information about _____should have been presented,”
are not appropriate. Instead, focus on what was stated by the author or presenter.
 DO NOT talk about poor writing or presentations styles. Statements like, “This
paper should have been organized better,” are not appropriate.
 What information seemed a little far-fetched or difficult to believe?
 What questions need to be answered with future studies or research?
What if you cannot find any weaknesses or far-fetched information?
 Nothing is ever perfect. To earn full credit for this paragraph, you will need to
identify specific weaknesses and limitations in the item you explored.
2. Follow the guidelines below when writing your paragraph.

 Poor Statements: This article was confusing and difficult to follow. The author
should have included more information about children’s eating habits.
 These statements do not answer the questions listed above. The first
sentence focuses on writing style and the second sentence talks about
missing information.
 Good Statements: The author mentions that children are hesitant to eat green
colored foods. However, with my own children, I have noticed that they typically
have no problem eating green colored candies. Thus, children may be more
sensitive to the strange appearance of vegetables, rather than the color green.
 These statements are appropriate for the first question presented above. A
specific argument from the article is presented and the problem with this
argument is described in detail.

1. Use complete sentences. Sentence fragments should not appear anywhere in your paper.

2. Follow all English punctuation and grammar rules. All writing in your paper should be
properly punctuated and grammatically correct.
3. Check all words to ensure they are spelled correctly.
