Impact of 2011 Cybersecurity Legislative Proposal on Veteran’s Affairs Organization

Introduction

Veterans Affairs form part of the government run military system in the United States. The organization is charged with numerous activities with the main aim focusing on the enhancement of the security of the citizens of the United States. It is one of the largest organizations or departments in the United State’s government only second to the department of defense. The organization offers employment opportunities to numerous individuals within the nation, medical programs and services, and administration of some benefits to the community. The organization has faced several security breaches like in the case of 2006 when computer systems with encrypted information were stolen from the premises of the government’s department. The purpose of this research paper is to analyze the impacts of the Cybersecurity legislation of 2011 on the developments and events at the Veterans Affairs organization (Merlotte & Simmons, 2012).

Analysis

Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability

Cybersecurity focuses on the achievement of three main functions in the form of improved confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the information. Confidentiality focuses on the autonomy and privacy of the information thus prevention of the external invasion by the hackers (Cybersecurity proposal, 2011). Integrity focuses on the credibility of the source of information to enhance the authority of the information. Availability focuses on the presence of information whenever need arises thus essential for the execution of obligations and roles within the organization. Implementation of the Cybersecurity legislation in 2011 will enhance the security systems of the Veteran Affairs organization thus improving confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information (Bullock et al, 2013). This is through elimination or minimization of the essence of invasion into the stored information or networking systems that might result into adverse effects of the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data.

Effectiveness and efficiency in service delivery

Cybersecurity threats limit or reduces the effectiveness and efficiency in the service delivery thus negative influence on the image of the organization (Bayuk, 2012). This focuses on the improvement of the role of information technology within an organization. Implementation of the Cybersecurity legislative will focus on the elimination or minimization of the losses the organization might incur because of the invasion of the confidential and autonomous information. Prevention of the occurrence of losses through minimization of invasion will improve the effectiveness and efficiency in the service delivery thus enabling the organization to improve its image and reputation within the market of operation. This is essential for the substantial application of security measures on the information technology systems and networking thus massive improvement in the relationship with the consumers (Gallaher et al, 2008). Cybersecurity threats rob Veteran Affairs of massive financial resources thus need for the minimization of the attacks to improve the quality of services towards the achievement of the goals and objectives of the entity within the United States (Cybersecurity proposal, 2011).

Protection of data and systems

The implementation of the cybersecurity proposal of 2011 will contribute towards the minimization of the interference with the data. The protection of the information and the networking system must be essential in the provision of quality services and products to the society (Cybersecurity proposal, 2011).

Enhancement of security against terrorism

Terrorists utilize lack of security in relation to communication systems and networking concepts. This makes it difficult for the organizations such as Veterans Affairs to manage and enhance human security against external attacks. Implementation of the cybersecurity proposal of 2011 will oversee improvement in the quality of human protection against external attacks (Cybersecurity proposal, 2011).

Minimization of cost

Entities such as Veterans Affairs incur great losses in case of breach of the information or networking system. In order to minimize the losses faced by corporations such as Veterans Affairs, it is essential to adopt and implement the proposed cybersecurity of 2011.

Conclusion

Cybersecurity threats affect organizations in numerous ways through influencing the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information (Karake-Shalhoub, 2010). This ensures that the organizations in context loses there image or reputation within the market because of low quality or ineffective services under the influence of external intrusion or attacks. Implementation of the Cybersecurity legislative of 2011 will enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the interactions and activities at Veterans Affairs organization. It will also improve the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information. Securing the communication systems and networking aspects of the organization will ensure the existence of credible information thus authoritative in the pursuit of goals and objectives within the United States.
