REQUIREMENTS FOR THE INFORMATIVE SPEECH
REQUIREMENTS
1. Delivered from note cards (3″ x 5″ or 4″ x 6″)
2. Separate typed outline for the instructor
3. Time limit 5-7 minutes
4. At least four bibliography sources
CONTENT
1. Must be divided into Intro-Body-Conclusion format
2. Must “teach or explain” something
3. Must use clear examples and/or visual aids
4. Must have sufficient documentation
5. Research topic fully – poorly researched or poorly thought out speeches will be penalized
6. Strive for creativity and originality
ORGANIZATION
1. Use an organizational pattern that is appropriate for your topic and purpose
2. Topical – categories
3. Spatial – territory
4. Chronological – time
5. Causal – relationships
DELIVERY
1. Must be well rehearsed
2. Must be devoid of unintentional slang
3. Use proper posture, facial expressions, vocal differentiation, etc.
4. Must be delivered extemporaneously not read
