In 1-2 pages, use the TED Talk and what you read in your textbook to discuss the following:
Motivation
- How does it relate to performance, job satisfaction, and retention?
- Are there any differences present between the theories in your text and what Dan Pink says about motivation? If so, what are they?
Reward
- Define intrinsic and extrinsic rewards. Give two examples of each.
- What does Dan Pink say about the notion of reward, and how does it affect an employee’s performance?

Choose a company you are familiar with or that you find to be interesting (e.g. Google, Apple, Square, Zappos, Amazon.com).
Research the company and then discuss each stage of the company’s development.
Answer the following questions to the best of your capabilities. Then give an example of a characteristic of your selected company that is associated with each stage:
Inception
- What is the firm’s purpose?
- What steps were taken for planning and implementation?
- What is the growth of commitment?
- Is there reliance on mutual adjustment?
Formalization
- How does the company deal with rapid growth and change?
- How does it develop routine activities?
- What is the division of work?

- How does the company search for new opportunities?
- What is the company’s strategy for diversification and decentralization?
- How has the company matured, and what efforts towards continued growth is it taking take?
Transformation
- How has the company’s hierarchical structure changed?
- How flexible is the company now?
- How did the company deal with massive change and complexity?
