Letter to the editor

Please complete a letter to the editor that expresses your reflections/thoughts on a current policy issue that relate it to child abuse in the U.S. The letter must conform to the standards as set by the Newspaper where you plan to submit your letter. Do not forget to cite references and include a copy of the newspaper article that you are responding to along with your letter.

The purpose of this assignment is to encourage students to explore how social policy is evident in your life or the lives around you. You may wish to pose questions and concerns in your letter. You are encouraged to submit what you have written to a newspaper whichever is applicable.

How to write a meaningful letter
●Step 1: Choose an issue.
●Step 2: Choose a Newspapers for your editorial. There are lists of newspapers from all over the world and links to their websites that can be found at RefDesk.com and the Internet Public Library.
●Step 3: Write your letter. Just try to keep it brief and to the point (150-200 words – follow the guidelines for the specific paper).
●Step 4: Proofread your letter & Think about what you have written
•Set the letter aside for a while and come back to look it over with fresh eyes.
•When you read it, consider the reader.
•Does your letter communicate your point clearly?
•Do your words inspire action?
•If you’re not sure, ask a friend or family member to read your editorial before you send it.
